For over 200 years women have served in the U.S. Military. Yet, only recently their contribution and role importance have been acknowledged. Comprising 10% of the veteran population, these “invisible veterans” share conditions experienced by males such as hypertension, PTSD, depression and homelessness. In addition to the shared conditions, women have faced additional unique problems – such as 1 in 5 women veterans indicate a “yes” when surveyed about military sexual assault.
